How We Prepare

We Plan

The Needham Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan contains guidelines and procedures for most contingencies. The CEMP is updated annually and uploaded to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency database.

Excerpts of the plan are available at the Needham Health Department, Fire Department, and Police Department upon request. Since 2007, Needham is also a member of the Norfolk County Regional Planning Committee, thus expanding our involvement in the regional emergency planning process.

We Meet

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meets monthly to discuss current events and share lessons learned among departments and other communities.

We Train

Full Certification of the LEPC, which is now the prerequisite to apply for Federal Homeland Security grants and requires regular exercises. These exercises have been table-top, functional and full scale in the past and involve town departments and agencies as well as the business community and health care providers.

Tools like the web based Emergency Operations Center (webEOC) allow Needham Emergency Management personnel to link directly into the State Operations Center in Framingham for status messages and requests for resources.
