About the Project
The Town is considering demolishing two of three buildings on the Ridge Hill property that are in a state of significant decay and may pose a safety hazard to the public. There are three buildings on the approximately 3-acre site under the jurisdiction of the Select Board: a Manor House, a garage, and a barn. The Ridge Hill Manor House and garage are proposed for demolition. The barn is in acceptable condition and is in use by the Town and the Needham Community Theatre. Saving the barn will allow it to be repurposed once plans for the site are finalized. Given the deteriorated physical condition of the other two Ridge Hill buildings, the Select Board has proposed that Town Meeting members authorize funding to demolish the buildings when they meet for Special Town Meeting on Monday, October 25, 2021.
Studies
The Estate Manor House and Garage Demolition Study, completed by Dore & Whittier, was presented to the Select Board on January 12, 2021 and is available here.
In the fall of 2017, the Town retained Weston & Sampson to complete an assessment of a 223-acre portion of the Ridge Hill Reservation including the Nike Property. The purpose of this assessment was to evaluate this property for potential areas of future development, and then have the resulting assessment report serve as a guide to the Town when considering current and future uses of this open space resource.
