Needham-Newton Corridor Project Update
Public Information Meeting, Thursday, March 23 

MassDOT is pleased to provide an update on the Needham-Newton Corridor Project. 

Since our last public meeting in February 2021, the project contractor has continued reconstruction work on the bridge over the Charles River. Moving into Summer 2023, the contractor is scheduled to begin full depth roadway reconstruction and paving in Newton along Winchester Street from Curtis Street to the project limit at Centre Street, as well as Needham Street from Columbia Avenue to Winchester Street, before beginning sidewalk and curb restoration in both locations. 

MassDOT will be holding a Public Information Meeting on Thursday, March 23 to discuss construction completed to date and what is planned for work this Spring.

The Needham-Newton Corridor Project will improve traffic safety and operations and multimodal accommodations (transit, bicycle, and pedestrian) extending from the intersection of Highland Avenue and Webster Street in Needham to the intersection of Winchester Street and Route 9 in Newton. The project excludes the area immediately adjacent to and above Route 128/I-95, which was part of an earlier project. The project also includes widening the bridge over the Charles River to accommodate all modes of travel.

MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution.
