The Council on Aging (COA) social work staff includes professional social workers who are available to assist older adults and their families. They provide information and referral, case management, counseling services, and are knowledgeable about local, state, and federal resources. The Friendly Visitor Program and Grocery Shopping Assistance program are also coordinated by the Social Services Department.

It is the COA's mission to ensure that Needham seniors and their families receive the support and assistance they need to face the challenges of aging in comfort and dignity. There is no fee for social work services. Some of the services offered throught the Social Service Department include assistance with seniors needing help with:

Finding caregiver resources

Help at home
Home maintenance referrals
Legal assistance referrals
Locating low income resources
Other life transitions
Support for depression or anxiety
