MassDOT Highland Ave/Needham St Project
Needham-Newton Corridor Project
Virtual Public Meeting Scheduled for September 30
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Early-action work begins late September
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has scheduled a virtual public information meeting to introduce the contractor for this project, P. Gioioso & Sons (PGS), and discuss the construction schedule and sequencing. The meeting will be on Wednesday, September 30, from 6:30 PM, to 8:00 PM via Zoom.
Details on how to join and participate in the meeting - including using the Zoom application, a web browser, or a telephone – will be posted on the project website and we will email the contact list in advance.
The project entails improvements for traffic safety and operations and multimodal accommodations from Highland Avenue at Webster Street in Needham to Needham Street at Route 9 in Newton. MassDOT has developed a robust public outreach program to ensure abutters and the traveling public are kept informed about construction progress and impacts. MassDOT is also coordinating closely with Needham and Newton municipal staff and elected officials, the Chamber of Commerce, and others.
Utility companies will clear trees and shrubs near utility poles to facilitate relocation for PGS to begin construction work. PGS will clear shrubs around the abutments of the bridge over the Charles River and install retaining walls at various locations within the project. This early action enabling work will take place within the roadway right-of-way. Travel will be maintained during the work. It will begin in late September and will take several weeks to complete. In general, abutters will see subcontractors working Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
