The Recycling and Transfer Station (RTS) provides residents with the opportunities to safely dispose of a variety of hazardous materials that can not be safely disposed of in regular trash.

The RTS collects a variety of hazardous materials on a daily basis:

  • Antifreeze
  • Automobile batteries
  • Computer monitors
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Freon containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, AC, dehumidifiers)
  • Medical sharps
  • Mercury containing devices (thermostats, thermometers, etc.)
  • Motor oil
  • Rechargeable and specialty batteries
  • TVs

Needham now has a reciprocal agreement with six other local towns for Household Hazardous Waste collections. Fees are assessed for materials brought to a town where you are not a resident. See details (PDF).

Paint Collection - April - Oct

The RTS conducts paint collection days on the third Saturday of the month April through October from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Needham conducts one Household Hazardous Waste Day per year. 2023 collection will be Saturday, November 4 from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the DPW Building at 470 Dedham Avenue.

The event is open to all Needham residents.
