Babysitting Training Seminars

Needham Youth Services (formerly known as the Needham Youth Commission) offers a Babysitter Training Seminar for new babysitters or for those with limited experience who desire a refresher class. The Babysitter Training Seminar is six hours and is offered as a three-day session. Students must be in the sixth grade and at least 11 years old to take the class.

The Babysitter Training Seminar is offered many times throughout the year. The seminar is also available for school and community groups by special arrangement. View how recent participants felt about this program.

A $45 fee is requested from participants to cover the cost of materials (waived in the event of financial need; learn more).


Topics

The class focuses on preparing youth to take on babysitting responsibilities. Topics include:

  • Tips and techniques for interviewing for the job
  • Safety in caring and playing with children on the job
  • Toy selection
  • Food preparation
  • Bed and bath time routines
  • Diapering 
  • Basic first aid and safety procedures
  • This is a three session training program
  • The program begins approximately 15 - 30 minutes after school ends and each of the three sessions are two hours in length
