Deep Water Test
Overview

In order to swim beyond the lifeline, all children/youth under the age of 18 must pass the Deep Water Test each season. The test is given during rest periods prior to 5:45 pm and is meant to display strength and stamina, not the beauty of one's swimming stroke. Supervisors may alter times as conditions dictate, and will make exceptions to testing times when the proper amount of staff is on duty.

Test Procedure
  • Jump into deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Float on back for 30 seconds
  • Swim 45 yards with strong over arm stroke, breathing and kicking

Any swimmer may retake the test as often as needed. The tester will give each swimmer who needs practice a guide sheet to assist with practicing. Parents may not bring children into deep section to practice, without permission of the Supervisor. Ask the Supervisor about the following assistance:

  • Practice Lane
  • Free Deep Water Test Clinics
  • Private Tests, including during swim lessons
  • Swim Lessons
