Rules and Regulations
Adult Supervision
Children under age of 10 must always be accompanied by an adult. At 5:45 pm, all those under the age of 16 must leave the complex unless accompanied by an adult, age 18 or older. Adults must supervise children in pool and playground areas. Guards are responsible for guarding, not supervision of children.
Beach
Digging is permitted on side beaches, but not on front beach as it is a major walking path for patrons and staff. Food should be consumed at picnic areas, and all trash should be placed in the proper receptacles. Glass containers must be kept away from pool area. Do not sit in front of Supervisor’s chair so that he/she may move quickly off chair in case of emergency. Patrons sitting on the front beach must move chairs/towels to wall, to keep walkway clear.
Benches
To be used for sitting, not as stairs.
Clothing
Bathing suits are required in the water, cut-offs are not permitted . Supervisor may give permission for extra clothing to be worn ( i.e. t-shirts, for medical reasons). Swim diapers or rubber pants are required (to prevent fecal accidents in pool, which are a health concern for all swimmers).
Deck and Center Dock
For use by Staff Only, or by staff-supervised patrons. Swimming is not permitted under center dock.
Diving
Permitted at diving boards only. The depth, when the pool is full, is only 9 feet, so feet-first entry is recommended. No inward or handstand dives permitted. The pool area in front of the diving boards must remain clear. Diving boards are open when there is sufficient water depth in the pool. Follow the rules set by guard on duty. The diving boards are closed during Swim Meets.
Flotation Devices
Not permitted for safety, including those sewn into suits. Supervisor may give permission for use of equipment for swimmers with disabilities.
Geese
Do not feed the geese. Daily attempts are made to scare them from the property. Daily clean-ups are done in the pool and on the grounds.
Lap Lanes
Available for swimming and water walking. Lanes are open during General Swim hours. One lane on left-hand side is made available during Swim Meets.
Lake
Swimming/private boating not permitted in lake. When instructor is available, sailing and/or canoe lessons are given for youth and adults.
Not Permitted
For safety and enjoyment of all swimmers, the following are not permitted:
- Swimmers with communicable diseases
- Diving over ropes
- Jumping off others
- Rough play
- Hanging on others or walls
Open Sections
An area is considered open for swim when a guard is sitting in a chair within that roped off section. Unguarded sections are closed.
Parking
Due to the way the lots were built, when cars were smaller, parking is difficult on busy days. Park in an orderly manner in lower and upper lots, as close as possible to next vehicle. If both lots are full, use Memorial Park. Only those with proper signage may use handicap spots. Do not park in areas listed as No Parking areas. There is NO PARKING on the driveway, on Rosemary Street, at the Library, in front of the dumpster, in designated staff spots, or in the emergency access to the Complex.
Phone
In case of an emergency, please see the booth attendant. There is no public phone for the pool. Call (781) 455-7550, press 3 with questions.
Pool Water
Must remain in the pool. Water for beach games and washing available in the building.
Practice Lane
For youth practicing to pass the Deep Water Test. Playing games in the practice lane may be approved by Supervisor, but only on quiet days when no one is practicing.
Questions
On site, questions are answered by the Supervisor on duty. Some questions will be referred to the Park and Recreation Office.
Rest Period
Held at quarter to each hour to give children time to come out of the water and regain strength. All those under the age of 18 must exit the pool. The lap lanes will remain open and guarded for adult swim.
Showers
Available outside the building and in Men’s and Women’s rooms. All swimmers are required to take cleansing showers before entering the pool.
The cleansing shower provides a protection to the swimmer and also reduces the chance of the swimmer spreading any type of bacteria.
Sun Safety
Sunscreen is available in the building hallway and at the Supervisor’s Chair. Umbrellas are available for use on the beach and on the hill. Supervisor may give permission for t-shirt to be worn in water.
Swim Lessons
Information available through Park and Recreation Office. Private lessons offered by some staff members – information available at Booth.
Swim Meets
Normally held on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, at which time the lap section and diving boards are closed. Check on hallway calendar for dates.
Toys
Not permitted in water for safety of all swimmers. Toys may be used on the side beach areas, within guidelines set by Supervisor.
