Help America Vote Act
Pursuant to the new federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), a voter who registered by mail on or after January 1, 2003 and is voting for the first time in a federal election must provide identification either at the polls on Election Day or by bringing the identification information into the Town Clerk's Office.

Identification showing voter's name and address:
  • Bank statement
  • Current or valid photo ID
  • Current utility bill
  • Driver's license
  • Government check
  • Government document
  • Paycheck

Provisional Ballots
If the voter does not have a valid form of identification to show the election worker on Election Day, the voter will be provided with a Provisional Ballot. The voter then has until the close of polls to return with a sufficient, valid ID.

The Election Division of the Secretary of State will be sending a postcard to all those persons who need to show identification instructing them to either send in a copy of the identification to the Town Clerk's Office or bring it to the polls in Election Day.

Additional Information
If you have any questions, or would like to know if your identification is required, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7510.
