The Caregiver Group
The Needham Council on Aging offers a support group for anyone providing care and assistance to a relative, spouse, or friend. The group meets in the afternoon on a monthly basis. For more information call 781-455-7555.

Low Vision Support Group

The Massachusetts Association for the Blind offers a monthly low vision support group at the Stephen Palmer Senior Center. The group provides practical and emotional support to individuals coping with serious sight loss. The group provides the opportunity for participants to share fears, frustrations, coping mechanisms, and resources as their vision changes.

Other groups are located in communities throughout Massachusetts. Many are led by visually impaired peer coordinators. For more information call 781-455-7555.

Group Goal
The goal of the Low Vision Support Group is to provide an opportunity for newly blind as well as visually impaired persons to come together to discuss issues relating to their vision loss, and to focus on topics such as:
  • Aging and vision loss
  • How to maintain independence
  • Specialized equipment to use in the home or on the job
  • The effects of vision loss on family and friends

Hoarding Support Group
The Hoarding Support Group meets on Mondays at 2 p.m. at the Needham Senior Center. No fee or sign-up required. Lorraine G., a hoarder herself, has formed a support group for people with hoarding behaviors. She participated in a new approach to this problem with the Boston University Cognitive Behavior Therapy treatment program.

She states, “This is a problem that can be worked on. Most people have been accumulating items for 20 to 30 years plus and expectations need to be realistic.” The support group will be utilizing the book, “Buried in Treasures” by David F. Tolin, Randy O. Frost, and Gail Steketee, and a workbook titled “Treatments That Work.”
