UPDATE: TAKE A HIKE - PROPOSED RAIL TRAIL
Tuesday, April 7, 2015

Aqueduct Trail Walk – due to the rescheduled Rail Trail Walk, the Aqueduct Trail Walk will be postponed until Saturday, April 25th at 10 AM. We will meet in the Eliot School parking lot, near the Eliot School welcome sign.

Rail Trail Walk – as the weather didn’t cooperate on the original date, we will now hold this walk on Saturday, April 11th. We have a very large group, which is exciting – but makes parking more challenging, so we will offer two time slots, and two starting points – listed below. Please call us at (781) 455-7550, press 3 at the recording or e-mail Kristen Wright at   to give us your preference.

  • 10 AM – park on High Rock Street, on the Town Forest side, near the bridge
  • 10 AM – park at Red Wing Bay off of Fisher Street
  • 1 PM – park on High Rock Street, on the Town Forest side, near the bridge
  • 1PM – park at Red Wing Bay off of Fisher Street

It’s important that parking be done in a way that is respectful of neighbors.

  • Not officially registered to attend? That’s okay! You can still register for the hike online (www.needhamma.gov/parkandrecreation) or you can call Kristen and let her know you plan on attending. If you are meeting a group, just let us know when you call in for a time slot so we know how may to expect when and where!

Wear appropriate footwear. There will be areas of mud as you access the trail, though the trail itself. The trail hasn’t been cleaned up from any winter debris, including fallen trees, so we ask those joining us on the walk to proceed with caution, and keep children on the trail. Dogs must be on leash. As the temperatures are likely to be warm, please be prepared to check for ticks, and dress appropriately to prevent tick bites.

Members of the Needham High Rail Trail Club will be your host on a walk down and back on the trail. The Bay Colony Rail Trail Association, the non-profit that has worked closely with the Town on this project, will also have information to provide.

Project Update: The Town has hired a contractor to remove the iron rails and the wooden ties along the pathway, as well as at the crossings on Charles River Street and Fisher Street. The contractor will be meeting with Town officials early next week to set the schedule for the work, which is expected to start in April. The surface will be left in safer condition but not complete. During construction, there will not be any access to the trail, but "use at your own risk" use can begin after the initial construction. A second bid will be put out for the final steps for this phase, which will include a stone dust surface, safety fencing and additional work at road crossings to inform vehicles and those using the trail of the upcoming cross-connection.

We also wanted to share our summer staff YouTube videos with the town...ENJOY!

    • The Summer Program Staff went with the popular idea of creating a video to a very famous song as a way to welcome participants and their families to the summer:

    • The Rosemary Pool staff decided to create a video of memorable moments from the past season as a fun way to wind down and reflect on all the fun of the summer:
