Who Can Participate?

Rising 6th – 12th graders are welcome to join us for this First Annual Summer Reading Program.

How to Participate:

Books read or listened to are recorded in a reading log.  Log your books by August 11th to be eligible to win prizes and grand prizes at the end of the summer.

Add a book review and get an additional scratch ticket for every 3 book reviews completed!

The Battle Begins:

Swing by the Adult Reference Desk to sign up for the program from June 7th through August 13th and begin recording books read.  Record reading through August 13th to be eligible for grand prizes (given out at the program on August 18th).
Attend events from June 7th to August 18th and get prizes!

Come in and register in person at the Adult Reference Desk and track reading in person and/or sign up and track books online at: https://wandooreader.com/needhamma/needham-young-adult-summer-reading-2018

Looking for book suggestions?  Come in for a Library Book Bingo Card and complete a row on the Tween/Teen Library Bingo sheet to get an additional scratch ticket.

Programs for Tweens and Teens happening throughout the summer of 2018:

June 7th from 4 – 8pm
High School Study Night!
Kick-off to summer reading!
*Come say hi to Cabrian, a Therapy Dog who will be visiting from 4-6*
*No Registration Required, no limit of participants

June 14th from 4 – 5pm
Faux Mosaic Crafternoon
We'll be making Mosaics with water colored paper

June 15th from 3 – 5 pm
Camp Rock Movie Viewing

June 21st from 3:30 – 5 pm
Celebrate the First Day of Summer while we color in the Young Adult Room

June 27th from 6 – 10 pm
INTERACTIVE JURASSIC PARK!
Similar to our Harry Potter Interactive Movies; Interactive Kits for all registered participants, Trivia, and Food!

(Please note, that because it is a PG-13 movie, we are being more strict with ages.  Unless given permission by ERIN, you will be turned away at the door if you are too young
)

CD Mandala Crafternoon
Using old and damaged discs to create works of art

July 16th from 4 – 5pm
Drum Workshop with Dave Curry!
Join our drum circle and learn what drumming is all about from Drummer Dave Curry
*Registration Required, limited to 20 participants*
(Sign-ups to begin in early June)

July 27th from 3 – 4 pm
Rock Painting / Kindness Rocks

July 29th from 2 – 3 pm
Concrete Garden Stones
A variation on Rock painting, come decorate a concrete leaf shaped stone.

August 3rd from 3 – 5 pm
High School Musical Movie Viewing

August 12th from 2 – 4 pm
Painting with Ms. Cate!
Paint a work of rock awesome art lead by instructor Catherine Hayes
*Registration Required, limited to 20 participants*
(Sign-ups will begin in early July 2018)

August 18th from 10 am – 4 pm
Combination All Day Percy Jackson Birthday Party and End of Summer Reading Wrap-up Party for Tweens and Teens!
Drop in anytime throughout the day to join us for Movies and activities and find out who won the Grand Summer Reading Prizes!!

*All programs attended for Tweens and Teens will get you 1 additional scratch ticket for prizes*

What can I get out of this?

And the Winner is!!

Participants will receive a free book when you register for the Summer Reading Program.

Tweens and Teens will receive a library made scratch ticket for every book
(2 Magazines &/or 2 Comics/shorter Manga: count as 1 book) completed.  The Scratch ticket will determine what prize you may be eligible for.

After getting a scratch ticket, turn it in for your prize and be entered for a grand prize option at the end of the summer.

AND

For every 5 books read, tweens and teens will receive an additional free book from the Friends of the Needham Public Library and will at that point be eligible to win a grand prize.
