Summer Reading Program 2016
On Your Mark, Get Set.....Read, the action-packed Summer Reading Program at the Needham Library Children's Department is under way.  
Children from birth to those entering 6th Grade in the fall are invited to join the reading fun. Minutes spent reading  or being read to will be recorded in a reading log. Log 16 hours over the summer to complete the program and be eligible to win grand prizes.

Each school in Needham has its own Reading Team competing in the Library League.

Broadmeadow School – The Bears
Elliot School – The Eagles
Hillside School – The Heroes
Mitchel School – The Mustangs
Newman School – The Nighthawks
St. Joseph’s School – The Jaguars
Preschoolers, Homeschoolers, Children who attend other schools - The Reading Rockets


School-aged children who register for Summer Reading at the Needham Free Public Library will join their school’s team. Children starting school for the first time in the fall can join the team for the school they will be entering. Children completing 5th Grade can join the team of the school they attended for 5th Grade.

Which Team Will Win?
Gold Metal 
The school that has the highest percentage of children complete the Summer Reading Program will receive a special school prize in September.
Silver Metal 
The school that who’s children read for the most hours over the summer will receive a special school prize in September.
Bronze Metal
The school that has the highest percentage of children register to read over the summer will receive a special school prize in September.
