Common Cause Awards


Since 2008 the Town of Needham has each year won the e-Government Award with Distinction from Common CauseCommon Cause is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1970 by John Gardner as a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process, promoting government accountability, and to hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest.   In 2006 Common Cause began its e-Government Award program where municipalities are eligible for the award if they meet criteria that include posting meeting agendas, minutes of meetings, budget information, complete general bylaws, town meeting warrants, and town meeting results. Cities and Towns that include a year’s history of governing board minutes and agendas, zoning bylaws, community calendars, minutes and agendas for school committee meetings and other board meetings received the award with distinction.
