The Needham Building Department is promoting Building Safety Month, sponsored by the International Code Council, to help create community-wide recognition and understanding of building safety and sustainability and the critical role of safety, codes and Building Officials.

Building Safety Month is a month-long celebration of all aspects of building safety that helps families, employers and leaders understand and appreciate the best practices that keep places where we live, work and play in, safe. All communities need building codes to protect their citizens from every day tragedies like fires, weather-related events like floods and structural collapse that follows deterioration over time of buildings of all kinds.  Model building codes, adopted intact and enforced by well-trained professional code officials are societies best way to protect homes, offices schools, manufacturing facilities, stores and even places of entertainment.
