Project VAN - Volunteers Around Needham

Project VAN (Volunteers Around Needham) is a program for middle and high school aged youth where as a team they provide one-day volunteer services to a range of Needham sites over the summer months. 

Project VAN began during the summer of 1998 at six sites and has grown larger since then. Project sites have included Needham Community Council, Needham Historical Society, Wingate at Needham, Needham Free Public Library, Needham Council on Aging, Charles River Center, Needham Town Hall.

Project VAN is generously funded by the Needham Community Council.

Typical Day

This summer, Project VAN will hold eight (8) volunteer days; a typical day included:

·        An hour orientation session including an explanation of the project and the value to the community

·        Interactive activities designed to promote a sense of teamwork and common focus

·        Actual work at the site

·        Group lunch

·        Closure session where youth can share their feelings regarding their experience
