The Network Manager supports and maintains the network infrastructure, security and engineering between the more than 20 buildings and location within the Town's managed fiber network as well as directly supports the technology needs from day-to-day requests to hardware, software, network infrastructure, security and engineering with the Town of Needham's Public Safety Buildings. The Network Manager assesses technology changes to help improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of existing Town and Public Safety systems, and make recommendation for improvement to the Director, MIS. Performs analysis, systems integration, strategic network planning and design, standards development, and project management duties for the Town's Network inclusive of the buildings that make up the Public Safety network. The Public Safety network includes the Needham Police Department, Needham Fire Station 1, and Needham Fire Station 2. In conjunction with the Director, MIS formulates network system project budgets and procurement of future projects. Supervise preventative maintenance program, technology asset management, network configuration, server installation and configuration, and operating system upgrades; maintain, update and backup of all client servers; and ensure the efficient and effective operation of network application software. Provides technical assistance and resources for resolving network/system problems for Town departments inclusive of Public Safety; evaluate network operating systems and make recommendations for continuous improvements; work closely with the Information Technology Support staff to ensure that hardware and software applications are consistent with network specifications. Implements and oversees E-mail, Internet, and intranet systems; provides training on the use of the network and various operating systems and application software programs. Provide oversight and management of the Department of Public Works SCADA systems, HVAC systems, and traffic management systems. Also responsible for the oversight and management of Town and Public Safety buildings door access systems as well as CCTV within Town and Public Safety buildings, properties, and road locations. Formulates standards for facilitating the back-up of all Town and Public Safety staff files on electronic media; devise and implement a plan to ensure the safety of all Town and Public Safety files and data on electronic media; and continually update the security system as new technology becomes available. Performs systems analysis and project management duties on a special project basis; assist in the implementation and oversight of all enterprise wide applications as they relate to the network for both the Town and Public Safety.
