The Director, MIS performs planning activities, including requirements for major systems or equipment needs, productivity, or conversions; plan overall department activities, ensuring that information is processed in a timely and efficient manner; and plan and coordinate complex and diverse technology procedures for all Information Technology Center controls and functions involving hardware, network, and software needs. Coordinate with town officials and department managers on the alignment of technology with enterprise-wide initiatives, policy and strategic objectives and assist in defining their technology needs. Provide technical advice to all Town managers on a wide variety of issues and problems to meet each department's regulatory, statutory and management requirements. The Director, MIS evaluates new products and determines suitabilityfor use in Town; recommends to Technical Advisory Board the acquisition of capital equipment; maintains service agreements for hardware, network and software systems. The Director, MIS coordinates standards for all hardware and software located throughout the Town excluding the needs of the School Department as well as set standards for hardware and software purchases to maintain compatibility of systems. Review and evaluate computer applications for inter-connectivity, level of complexity, and design; implement revision to promote increased proficiency; maintain awareness of available technology applications; and advise department heads of applications available to enhance operations. Estimate time and cost standards for various projects, and evaluate staff's performance to meet standards. Provide and coordinate instruction, training, and guidance to all departmental users in the implementation and operation of software programs. Organize and provide direction in the area of IT Customer Service which includes supporting a help desk for desktop applications, network applications, and IT training. Develop an annual spending plan as directed that encompasses departmental personnel, computer hardware, maintenance contracts, application software, consultants and training. Develops and presents funding strategies to support technology investments. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
