Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs have been extended another month to Monday, December 14, 2020 11:59 EST.
The MCC says that the delay in the operating budget of the state legislature necessitates the need for an extended deadline, "This change will not only allow applicants more time to review and prepare their applications around new guidelines, but also allow Local Cultural Councils more flexibility to make any changes to their local priorities, publicize the grant cycle and do additional outreach to support of applicants."
The Needham Cultural Council will be available to answer any pre-application questions via phone or email. Organizations, schools, and individuals are welcome to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. These grants can be for program, project or operational support.
According to Council spokesperson Charly Nanda, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Needham -- including organizational support, exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.
The Needham Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
Last year, the Needham Cultural Council distributed $6,800 in grants to support the cultural vitality of the community. The Council has set priorities to address the needs of underserved or in-need groups as well as applications that elevate the diverse voices and experiences of historically marginalized populations. Previously funded projects include Needham New Year’s, Arlekin Players Theatre, New England Open Ballroom Dance Championship, Needham Concert Society, Boston Bhangra and Needham Open Studios.
