The Needham Cultural Council announced today the call for grant applications for cultural projects and programs that benefit the community of Needham.

Organizations, schools, and individuals are encouraged to apply for grants that support arts and culture activities that have public benefit for the town. These grants are intended to fund such initiatives as exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies, public art, performances, workshops, lectures and organizational support.

According to Council spokesperson Charly Nanda, the Needham Cultural Council has set priorities this year to support grant applications that highlight underserved or in-need populations. “With the arts and culture community significantly struggling during this public health crisis, we really want to get the word out widely that the Needham Cultural Council has funding available.”

The Needham Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

Last year, the Needham Cultural Council distributed $6,800 in grants to support the cultural vitality of the community.  Previously funded projects include Needham New Year’s, Arlekin Players Theatre, New England Open Ballroom Dance Championship, Needham Concert Society, Boston Bhangra and Needham Open Studios.
