Find out what's happening in our Town. Below is a list of current news releases.
We want to take a minute remind residents not to pour or sweep anything down a storm drain. This includes: pet waste/baggies, motor oil, paint, litter, leaves, sand or any other substance that could be harmful to the environment. And it's also not a good idea to block storm drains with refuse or debris. Stormwater on parking lots and streets flows into storm drains, due to the way that they are graded, so that the pavement will not flood. Storm drains have underground pipes that channel the stormwater directly to a nearby water body, usually without any treatment or cleansing. So whatever flows down a storm drain comes out in a nearby water body, such as a wetland, stream, or pond. We all need clean water for drinking, swimming, fishing, boating, and for protecting wildlife.

OVERNIGHT WATER MAIN FLUSHING During April 7, 2008 – May 29, 2008 Working Hours are 11:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. The Needham DPW will be flushing water mains beginning April 7 through May 29. Flushing will take place overnight, between 11:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Mon.-Fri. of each week. The purpose of water main flushing is to eliminate rust and manganese sediment build-up in water mains. It will take approximately 7 weeks to complete. You may experience discolored water. This discoloration is not a health risk. You are advised to store enough water for drinking & cooking, and not do laundry or dishes after 11:00 p.m. To flush the discolored water within your home/building after 5:30 a.m., open the cold-water faucet and let it run for several minutes. If the water does not clear within this time, wait an hour and repeat the process. Any question or concern, you may contact the DPW at (781) 455-7534. Thank you for your cooperation, Robert Lewis, Water & Sewer Superintendent [Department of Public Works website]
