Park & Recreation
06/15/2020 - Update:
Over the past week the Park and Recreation Department and Commission have been discussing how both the summer programs and the Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex will be operating this summer. We do not have final details yet, but our programs and our pools will be operated under the strict guidelines and recommendations of the local and state Board of Health departments. We will post another update as soon as we have any information about hours, programs and registration.
Today we enter the final phase of our field openings. All fields have had proper maintenance and are available for the public to use for PASSIVE recreation. No field permits for organized activities are being issued, the playgrounds and basketball courts in Needham remain closed to the public. As a reminder, fields cannot be used for organized activities without a permit.
The Park and Recreation Commission and Department will be discussing the new protocols at their June 22nd meeting. Over the weekend, our amazing Parks staff was able to install missing Tennis nets and starting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16th, doubles tennis will be allowed at the public courts. As a reminder, private lessons are not permitted at any of the public tennis courts and tennis badges are required for access.
We thank the community for your continued patience as we determine the best protocols for our Open Spaces and programs with the very new guidance.
As always – if you have any questions, please feel free to email our office – email@example.com

06/01/2020 - The Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex:
At a recent Commission meeting, the Park and Recreation Commission voted to extend the 2020 memberships to include the 2021 pool season. This means that members that are already registered for 2020 memberships will have a valid membership for any season we are able to have this summer as well as a full membership for next summer. The extension is automatic for those that are already registered. Registration for 2020 memberships are still available for purchase online for Needham residents at the 2020 season rates that went into effect on April 16th.
Non-Resident membership registration has been suspended at this time. All current members will be emailed directly with options to extend or withdraw.
The Pools at RRC are operated under a permit that is issued by the Needham Public Health Department. Until we know the exact guidelines that need to be met to operate the Pools, we cannot provide a full plan for the Pools. Park and Recreation would love to open this Pools this season and will do whatever we can to open in some capacity for the summer of 2020. Once more guidance is received, we will be issuing a full plan. If you have any questions about your membership to the Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex, please email email@example.com
06/01/2020 - Summer Aquatic Programs:
It is with deep regret that we inform you that, after extended meetings and conversations, we have concluded that we must cancel all our aquatic-based programs. This includes Sharks Swim Team, Swim Lessons & Sunset Yoga. We understand this is a great disappointment to everyone but probably not unexpected.
The Town of Needham’s Park & Recreation Department is driven by the safety of our members, patrons, residents, and staff. COVID-19 is creating so much uncertainty throughout our country and our region, we cannot in good conscience take even a small chance that you or your family members could become exposed to this virus. Our aquatic-based programs cannot ensure enough physical distancing and we have made the difficult decision to cancel.
For those that are already registered for aquatics programming this summer, you were emailed directly with the options for withdrawing from these programs. If you have any questions about your specific registration, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
