Update on the Pools

Friday, July 16, 2021

This evening we received notice from our testing facility that we have passed our final bacterial test and the Pools at RRC will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, July 17.

Time slots will go online for Saturday and Sunday at 7:00pm tonight (Friday) for our members and at midnight Saturday (12:00am) for our residential non-members. Non-Residents will have the opportunity to register at 7:00am on the day of the reservation if any additional spots remain. We will be following our new schedule originally intended to launch last Saturday.

We would like to take a moment to thank our amazing staff that worked extraordinarily hard in order for the Pools to reopen this quickly after receiving our testing results.

We thank all of you for your continued patience as we worked through this frustrating situation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at parkandrecreation@needhamma.gov.

Today we received the results of our bacteria tests for the Pools at RRC.  Unfortunately, we did not pass the test and there was indeed bacteria in the water at the time of the testing. Because of this we will not be able to re-open the pool as early as we had hoped.  In addition to the water treatments we have been doing since the weekend, we will again shock the pool to clean out any potential left over bacteria.  This afternoon, our testing lab will come to take a new sample.  The results of this test can take 3-4 days and because of the weekend, we will not receive the results until Monday morning. Once we receive the results, we will send out another Pool Update.

As always, the safety of our patrons, staff, and community is the number one priority for our department and we are grateful to everyone for their continued patience and understanding during this increasingly frustrating situation.

For swim lessons and swim team, we will reach out to you directly about our cancellation policies.

We will continue to update our website and social media pages throughout the week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at parkandrecreation@needhamma.gov.

We hope you all “weathered” Elsa’s storm. Unfortunately the Pools at RRC did not fare too well.  During the storm yesterday, Rosemary Lake rose and flooded the pools.  We had to shut down the pumps and filters in order to preserve them.  Earlier this morning, we were able to get everything turned back on and have started the work to get the pools reopened. However, this will take longer than we would like.  We will work over the weekend to rebalance the water chemistry. On Monday morning, we will have a water testing lab come out to take a sample of the pool water for a bacteria test.  Once we receive notice that the results of the test are safe, which can take 3-4 days, we will reopen the pools.  This means that the pools will not open until later this week-- Friday would be the earliest possible day for us to open.

If you have family time slots, lap swim, swim lessons or swim team registrations, we will reach out to you directly about our cancellation policies.

We will continue to update our website and social media pages throughout the week.

This is a frustrating situation for all of us, but we will push through and reopen the pools safely as soon as we are able.  Thank you for your patience during this time.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at parkandrecreation@needhamma.gov.
