Imagine Your Story: Summer Reading 2020
Early Literacy Summer Reading (ages 0-3): Parents read aloud to their little ones. A digital badge is earned for every hour of reading. Parents also receive early literacy tips along the way - simple things they can do at home to help their child develop language skills, love books and be prepared to become readers. Parents complete the program with their child after logging 10 hours of reading by August 4th.
Summer Reading (ages 4-12): Children read at home and log online the amount of time they spend reading. Children may also be read aloud to, or listen to audiobooks and may read any books they choose. This year, children have to embark on a quest through the Enchanted Forest. As they log their reading, they will continue to move further along through an online story in which they are the main character. Encounters with The Big Bad Wolf, a fire-breathing dragon and an evil wizard may pose some difficulties for our heroes. However the Fairy Queen, a unicorn and other magical beings are there to help and earn digital badges. They complete the program by logging 16 hours of reading by August 4th. Those who wish to keep reading can earn a special badge by reading for 17 hours or more.
Tween and Teen Summer Reading ages 12-18: Attention Tweens and Teens! Coming to a screen near you this summer, things are getting switched around and turned upside down with our virtual summer reading program. Participate in our online summer reading program through a website called Beanstack. Head to https://needhamma.beanstack.org/ to get your reading journey started today. Ages 12 - 18 can read books for chances to win one of four grand prizes which will be drawn at the end of the summer as well as a chance to win raffles every week for e-cards and gift cards to local establishments! For every book read and logged, get a virtual raffle ticket to be eligible to win some of these great prizes.
If reading isn't your style and you're more of a crafty person, join us for one (or many) Zoom craft session that are scheduled for Tweens ages 10 - 12 on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:30 pm or Teens ages 13 - 18 on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:30 pm with Young Adult Librarian Erin! These craft sessions are not structured (so we won't be working on specific things) so bring anything you're interested in working on (ex. coloring, painting, stitching - knitting or crocheting, scrapbooking, making friendship bracelets, beading, etc.) Looking for suggestions? Just ask Erin. These weekly programs will continue until further notice. If you have any questions about summer reading or any Tween/Teen Virtual programming questions or any other questions about Young Adult happenings (looking for book suggestions or recommendations of things to add to the collection?), contact Erin at neeya @ minlib.net and she'll be happy to get back to you!
Adult Summer reading 18+: Hey Friends! Come join our Summer Reading Program for Adults too! Participate by reading 5 books on our virtual "Bingo Board" of activities through Beanstack. Each book read (or listened to) will have to fulfill a different category. Each activity counts as one square on our Bingo Board. Have any questions or if you would prefer a full Bingo Board sheet to print at home just ask our Library Reference Staff at neemail1 @ minlib.net or by calling 781-455-7559 x502 between 9:00 am and 8:30 pm Mondays, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday - Friday, and 9:00 am - 4:30 pm Saturdays and we'll be happy to help you out!
