Classification & Compensation

About the System

The Town of Needham Personnel System is governed by the town charter, the Massachusetts general laws, and relevant collective bargaining agreements. The Classification and Compensation System is overseen by a five-member Personnel Board appointed by the town moderator. The Personnel Board works closely with the town manager and the assistant town manager / personnel director to establish appropriate classification and compensation rates based on current Human Resource principles. Each year, any changes made to the Classification and Compensation system are ratified at the town meeting.
